Guide · Locktober

Locktober, for two.

Thirty-one days in chastity is a long time to spend on something you only half agreed. How to plan the month together, set rules you will still believe in on day twenty, and keep it kind the whole way through.

What Locktober is

Locktober is the chastity community’s month: the whole of October spent locked, or as much of it as the two of you agree. For some people it is a first real attempt at a long lock-up. For couples who already practise chastity it is a reason to do something together with a clear start and a clear end — a shared project rather than an ordinary month.

It is also a month where plenty goes wrong, and nearly always for the same reason: it was decided in September, by one person, in a mood. A month is long enough for enthusiasm to run out and for real life to arrive. The couples who enjoy Locktober are the ones who planned it as a pair.

The goal is a good October, not a perfect one.

Agree it before the first of the month

Sit down in the last week of September and talk it through properly. Not in the moment, and not by message at midnight. The questions worth answering out loud:

  • What counts as success? All thirty-one days, or a target number? Is a planned release on the fifteenth part of the plan or a failure?
  • What happens on a missed day? Decide the consequence now, while nobody is annoyed. Keep it proportionate.
  • Where is the key? Held by the keyholder, in a timed box, or somewhere agreed? Who can reach it in an emergency?
  • What about work, travel and the doctor? Look at the calendar together. A flight or a medical appointment is not a failure; put it in the plan.
  • How will you check in? A daily word about how it is going — physically and emotionally — is worth more than any rule.

Both of you should come out of that conversation able to say yes to the month. If one of you is not sure, start smaller: a week, then a fortnight. Locktober comes round every year.

Health comes first, every day

A month is long enough for a small problem to become a real one, so treat the body with respect. A device that fits well should never cause pain, numbness, swelling or broken skin. If any of those appear, the device comes off — immediately, whatever the rules say and whatever the day count is. Agree that before October starts, so nobody has to argue about it in the moment.

Plan cleaning breaks rather than treating them as a lapse. A short, supervised break to wash properly is part of doing this well, not a weakness. Wear the device for longer stretches in the weeks before October if you have not done a long lock-up before, so the first surprise is not on day three.

A way out that is always available is what makes it safe to stay in.

Give each day something to do

Thirty-one days of simply waiting gets dull by the second week, and dull is when people give up. A small daily challenge keeps the month moving and keeps the keyholder involved: a written line, a posture held for five minutes, a photograph of the day’s outfit, a chore done without being asked, a letter. There is a full list of thirty-one Locktober challenges, one for each day.

Leave some days open for the keyholder to fill in on the day. It keeps the submissive guessing and lets the month respond to how it is actually going. A few days can be witnessed — done together, in person or on a call — rather than proved with a photo afterwards.

If you use a wheel or a game to decide what happens next, agree what is on it before the month starts and keep the outcomes fair. A game that can only ever make things worse stops being a game by the third spin.

When day twenty gets hard

It will. The middle of the month is where frustration peaks and the novelty has gone. That is when the daily check-in matters most. Ask how they are, and mean it. A missed challenge that is owned up to honestly is a better outcome than a perfect record kept by hiding things.

Asking to skip a day, or asking for a cleaning break, should be easy and should never be punished for being asked. A keyholder who says yes to a reasonable request builds more trust than one who says no to prove a point.

The first of November

Plan the end as carefully as the start. Talk about what worked and what did not while it is fresh. Celebrate the days that went well — thirty-one of them or twelve. Many couples find the best part of Locktober is the conversation afterwards about what they want to keep doing.

How My Dynamic helps

My Dynamic has Locktober built in. Both of you have to say yes before it starts, and the keyholder can plan it in the week before October. There is a thirty-one-day calendar of daily challenges, with days left open for the Dominant to choose and days that can be marked as witnessed. A missed day is reported by the person who missed it and ruled on by the other. The wheel can add time, grant a release or hand out a task, and the progress can be shared as a picture if you want to. Locktober, like the rest of chastity, is part of the paid plan.

Underneath it all is the chastity side of the app: lock-ups confirmed from both sides, cage checks, cleaning breaks, and a way out that can never be switched off.
